In Greek mythology, the Danaides were the fifty daughters of Danaus who married the fifty sons of Aegyptus. At the command of their father all but one of the daughters murdered their husbands on the first night of their marriage. As punishment for this horrendous crime they were forced to spend eternity in Hades trying to fill vessels with water that constantly leaked out. This beautiful statue is a three dimensional reproduction of THE DANAIDES by John William Waterhouse. It features three of the Danaides attempting to fill a large vessel with water from amphorae. The statue has a wonderful bronze finish that gives it the look of metal, and has hand-painted accents on their gowns. It measures 11 1/4 inches tall, 10 1/2 inches wide and 7 inches deep. It adds class to any decor.
